The University of Waterloo Scholarships are a fully funded opportunity for international students, covering undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies, worth up to $10,000.
The University of Waterloo is offering the David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards to outstanding candidates, supporting both Canadian and international students. This full-time program is open to international applicants pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in any faculty of Waterloo. Faculties will nominate qualified students based on their award of scholarships, with selections made based on academic excellence demonstrated in their applications for admission to graduate programs.

Scholarship Coverage
The University of Waterloo scholarships offer the following benefits:
David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Scholarship: up to $2,500 for a one-term study experience; $2,500 to $5,000 for part-time work or volunteer experience; up to $10,000 for two quarters of work or volunteer experience.
International Master’s Award of Excellence: $2,500 per term for a maximum of 6 terms.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships
- Required Language: English
- Eligible Countries: All countries
- Academic Standing: Minimum 70% average for undergraduate level; minimum 75% average for graduate level.
- Enrollment: Must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students in any faculty, aiming to participate in an international experience in Israel, such as a minimally paid or volunteer international co-op work placement, volunteer placement, academic exchange, or study term related to academic requirements.
- International Students: Must have a valid Canadian study permit, be registered full-time, and pay international tuition fees.
- Program Type: Typically awarded to students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper).
- Entry Term: Generally awarded to students entering their first term (term 1.0) of the program.
- Academic Excellence: Must demonstrate academic excellence according to Faculty criteria.
- Academic Progress: Must meet the academic progress requirements of their program without any outstanding probationary admission conditions.
- Other Scholarships: Can be combined with other internal or external scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS). Note: Scholarships differ from sponsorship.
- Sponsorship: must not simultaneously benefit from sponsorship from a foreign government or agency or be self-financed beyond the minimum levels of support of the Faculty.
- Previous Awards: Students previously awarded an IMSA for a completed master’s degree can be nominated for an IMAE but cannot be nominated if grand-parented under the IMSA program.
- Selection Process: Candidates are automatically considered based on their admission application. Departments and/or Faculties will select recipients based on eligibility criteria and allocation.
- Stricter criteria: faculties may set stricter eligibility requirements if they deem it appropriate
