Requirements For Scholarships At Stanford University

To be considered for Stanford University Scholarships, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Applicants from all countries worldwide are eligible to apply for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program.
  • You must have received your first or bachelor’s degree in 2015 or later, with the intention of enrolling in 2022. You are eligible if you apply within four years and enroll within five years after earning your degree.
  • You should demonstrate intellectual curiosity, a thirst for knowledge and new experiences, creativity, the ability to navigate uncertainty, and the capacity to hold unconventional viewpoints.
  • Completion of both the Knight-Hennessy Scholars application and any standardized tests required by your chosen graduate program (such as GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.), as well as an English proficiency test if necessary, is mandatory.
  • You must exhibit ambition, a drive for self-improvement, a willingness to take risks, resilience in the face of challenges, humility, kindness, inclusivity, respect for diversity, and a spirit of helpfulness towards others, with a low ego.
  • Fluency in English, encompassing listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, is essential for studying at Stanford. Most graduate programs require a minimum TOEFL score of 100 iBT or 600 PBT, although the MBA Program also accepts IELTS and PTE scores. Further information on scores is available
  • In addition to applying for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program. Knight-Hennessy Scholars must be new students in graduate programs such as DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or PhD, with priority given to those planning to spend at least two years studying at Stanford. There are no specific quotas for disciplines or programs.

How To Request Scholarships At Stanford University?

  • To secure this scholarship, adhere to these application guidelines:
  • Begin by registering an account on this platform and initiating your application online.
  • Fill out and send in the digital admission application, providing personal and academic details as required. The university will request essential biographical and demographic information, along with explanations of your extracurricular involvements and interests.

Provide an unofficial or self-reported transcript detailing your academic performance in college and, if applicable, graduate school for each institution attended for a year or more. If you cannot provide an unofficial transcript, you can use the self-reported transcript template provided.

The transcript should indicate any degrees awarded and their conferral dates. Transcripts from study-abroad experiences are unnecessary if credits are included on your main transcript.

Submit a resume outlining your academic, personal, and professional history and achievements. The guideline is one page per decade of experience after secondary school.

Essays (Combined word limit: 1,750 words):

  • Reflect on the influences in your life and how they have shaped you.
  • Detail your plans for pursuing your life’s purpose, and how your Stanford education and Knight-Hennessy Scholars experience will aid you in this pursuit.

Two short-answer responses:

  • Share eight interesting facts about yourself.
  • List three current goals or objectives. (Note: Being admitted to Stanford or selected as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar cannot be included as a goal.)
  • Video story: Your video should not exceed two minutes in length. It’s okay if your response is shorter. There’s no requirement to speak for the full duration.
  • In-person assessment.
