Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) are available to graduate students in all disciplines of undergraduate study at participating Ontario institutions. Each scholarship is funded by the Province of Ontario (two-thirds) and the institution offering the scholarship (one-third).

The Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) program encourages excellence in graduate studies at publicly funded universities in Ontario. Since 1975, the CGS program has offered merit-based scholarships to Ontario’s top graduate students in all disciplines of undergraduate study. The province distributes BESO scholarships to universities by specifying the number of scholarships that each can offer to its students each year. Since 1975, the OGS program has offered merit-based scholarships to top Ontario graduate students in all disciplines of undergraduate study. In 1998, the Ontario government launched the QEII-GSST, a merit-based scholarship program targeted specifically at graduate students in science and technology.

The goal of the fund is to award scholarships to master’s and doctoral students in all fields of study at participating Ontario institutions, with the goal of recognizing and recognizing student excellence.

Scholarship Value:

Ontario Scholarships are awarded based on the number of consecutive terms of study in an academic year:

  • $10,000 for 2 consecutive study terms
  • $15,000 for 3 consecutive study terms

Each OGS award is issued for:

  • minimum one academic year (2 or 3 consecutive academic terms)
    maximum 2 years (up to 6 consecutive academic terms).

Lifetime Maximums

The OGS awards maximums are:

      • Master’s students: 2 academic years
      • Doctoral students: 4 academic years
      • Lifetime limit (all students): 6 academic years

 

  • OGS application form
  • Transcripts from all postsecondary institutions (unofficial and student-issued transcripts are allowed; for example, screenshots from ACORN).
  • Previous awards/publications/conferences/research experience.
  • Study plan (maximum 2 pages: 1 page for the study plan, 1 page for references/citations). Two academic references (reviewers must submit online).

Eligibility for Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OSSB) is a merit-based scholarship. Applications are evaluated and ranked according to the criteria established by the educational institution you plan to attend.

To be considered, you must also meet the following criteria:

You will be in higher education at master’s or doctoral level

You will be enrolled in a full-time program for 2 or more terms (21-52 weeks in total) for the academic year in which you submit your application.

You will attend one of the following participating educational institutions in Ontario

Application Process

Use your institution’s OGS application form. It is usually available in October.

If you are applying to multiple graduate programs at different schools, submit one OGS application for each school.
