The Hsiao Memorial Economics Scholarship was created in honor of Liang-Lin Hsiao, an 89-year-old Emeryville, California, resident who passed away on May 21, 2009, in his waterfront apartment.
He taught economics at Indiana State University from 1959 until his retirement in 1985, at which point he moved to California. He was born on September 17, 1919, in Swatow, Canton, China.
During the war, National Southwest United University, Kunming (a conglomeration of Peking, Tsinghua, and Nankai Universities), was his place of education. It is awarded to a graduate student at a college or institution with a US campus who is pursuing a graduate degree in economics.
